Expanding Academic Opportunity

 

Supported district-paid AP exams for every student, removing cost as a barrier to participation. Monrovia High School subsequently earned Gold status on the College Board AP School Honor Roll and Platinum status for College Optimization. I have also consistently supported multiple pathways for students, including college, career and technical education and recently supported the implementation of Auto-Tech classes at Clifton Middle School to bridge to the high school Automotive Science Career Technical (CTE) pathway.

 

Supporting the Whole Child

 

After hearing directly from elementary teachers about the increased behavioral, social-emotional and mental-health needs they were seeing following COVID, I worked with the Superintendent to bring counseling support to every MUSD elementary school and have expanded services throughout the district including implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).

 

Supporting Teachers & Staff

 

I helped guide the district through fiscal stabilization, positioning MUSD to provide one of the most significant employee salary and healthcare increases in many years. I remain accessible and responsive to staff because attracting, retaining and supporting exceptional employees is essential to exemplary schools.

 

Fiscal Responsibility

 

You supported the district's Fiscal Stabilization Plan, including difficult right-sizing decisions necessitated by declining enrollment. Your position has consistently been that financial stability protects educational opportunities and allows MUSD to make sustainable investments in employees and students.

 

Experienced Leadership Through Difficult Times

 

I helped govern MUSD through the COVID-19 pandemic, declining enrollment, fiscal stabilization, middle-school consolidation and the implementation of Measure MM.

 

Equitable Educational Opportunities

 

I have emphasized that students should have meaningful opportunities whether their path after high school is college, career, technical education, military service or another route and worked to expand Dual Enrollment with Citrus College saving families thousands of dollars.

 

  

Safe, Inclusive and Welcoming Schools

 

I have supported the district's Anti-Hate Resolution, protections and support for immigrant students and families, mental-health resources, and efforts to ensure students feel safe, valued and including strengthening policies.

 

Community Partnerships

 

I have supported and strengthened partnerships with the City of Monrovia, Citrus College and community organizations, helping to expand opportunities and resources available to students.

 

Creating Greater District Transparency

 

I developed the framework for MUSD's State of the Schools Address, creating transparency and an opportunity to report publicly on accomplishments, challenges and priorities while highlighting students, staff and schools.

 

Listening and Accessibility

 

You have held Coffee Ed Chats, listening sessions and direct conversations with teachers, employees, parents and community members, and you have used what you heard to help shape recommendations and Board decisions throughout your time on the school board.

 

Measure MM

 

I worked on Measure MM for more than two years, including serving on the Board's Measure MM subcommittee, and you are now focused on ensuring the district delivers the improvements promised to the community and responsibly stewards taxpayer dollars.

 

A Commitment That Started Long Before the School Board

​

Before being elected, I served Monrovia Unified as a PTSA Auditor and School Site Council leader at Bradoaks Elementary, and later as Auditor and School Site Council member at Clifton Middle School. I now bring 8 years of proven school-board governance and 35 years of federal leadership experience to the Board.

My commitment to Monrovia Unified isn't new. It's a record of service built over many years.
